Inside the Mucky Pups grooming salon

Hello

A calm North Leeds salon,
run by people who genuinely love your pet.

Mucky Pups opened in 2016 when Hailey Watson took the plunge to open her own salon — somewhere unhurried, where dogs aren’t cage-dried back-to-back and where every owner gets honest advice on their pet’s coat.

Eight years on, Hailey is joined by Elise — and between them they’ve groomed thousands of dogs, more cats than most Leeds salons see in a lifetime, and the occasional very-fluffy rabbit. Same hands, same scissors, same gentle pace, every visit.

Full Dog Groom

Bath, blow-dry, scissor finish, ears, nails & sanitary trim — the lot. Built around your dog’s coat type and your preferred length.

From puppies to old timers

Breed-Specific Cuts

Cockers, Cavapoos, Schnauzers, Westies, Shih Tzus, Poodles — done the way the breed should look, not a one-size-fits-all clipper job.

Hand-finished

Hand Stripping

For wire-coated terriers, schnauzers and dachshunds. We pluck, not clip — which keeps the texture, colour and weather-resistance your dog’s coat was bred for.

Cat Grooming

Most groomers won’t take cats. We do — and we take our time. Sanitary trims, lion cuts for matted coats, brush-outs and nail trims, all in a calm room away from any dog noise.

Rare in Leeds

Rabbit Grooming

Long-haired rabbits — Lionheads, Angoras, Cashmere Lops — need regular coat care or they mat fast. Gentle brush-outs, sanitary trims and nail clips, in a quiet space, by people who actually know rabbits.

Puppy First Groom

A short, calm intro session — gentle bath, brush, blow-dry on low, plus a face/feet/bum tidy. Goal: your puppy leaves wagging, not terrified of the table.

From 16 weeks

Spa & Pamper

The full works — deshed treatment, blueberry facial, paw balm, teeth brushing and a finishing spritz. The dog version of a Sunday at the spa.

“Hailey has been grooming our cockapoo Bertie since he was a pup. He doesn’t even look back at us when we drop him off — he just trots in. That’s how comfortable he is. The cut is always spot on too.”

“Took our long-haired cat Mochi here after THREE other groomers refused to touch her. Elise was so calm with her — proper sanitary trim, no stress, no drama. Honestly relieved to have finally found someone.”

“Honestly the transformation every time is unreal. We took in a matted, scruffy rescue and Hailey gave him this beautiful breed-correct cut. Other groomers had said he’d need to be shaved. So glad we found Mucky Pups.”

“I asked them to groom my Lionhead rabbit Toffee — fully expecting a no. Hailey said yes, took her time, and Toffee came home looking like a different rabbit. Calm, kind, knew what she was doing. Can’t recommend enough.”

“Took our nervous schnauzer pup for his first groom. Elise spent half the appointment just letting him sniff things and get used to the noise. Came home wagging. So unlike the conveyor-belt groomers we’d tried before.”

FAQs

The bits most owners ask.

Anything we’ve missed? Just call or DM us — we don’t bite.

Are you actually taking new clients? +
Yes — books are currently open for weekday appointments. Most reputable Leeds salons have closed waiting lists, so we’re a bit of a lucky find right now. Booking ahead is still wise (regulars rebook 4–8 weeks in advance), but we can usually slot a new client in within 2–3 weeks.
Do you really groom cats and rabbits? +
Yes — and we’ve been doing both for years. Cats get a quiet room (no dogs coming in or out) and we work at their pace. Long-haired rabbits — Lionheads, Angoras, Cashmere Lops — get gentle brush-outs, sanitary trims and nail clips. Most groomers refuse both because they’re harder. We just take the time.
Does my pet need to be vaccinated? +
Yes — all dogs and cats need to be up-to-date on their core vaccinations (annual boosters fine), and we’ll ask to glance at the vet card on first visit. Rabbits should be vaccinated against RHD & Myxomatosis. It’s as much for your pet’s safety as everyone else’s.
What happens on the first visit? +
We’ll have a chat first — about your pet’s coat, what cut you like, any quirks (anxious about feet? dislikes the dryer? loves treats?). Then we do the groom at a calm pace, agree the price up front, and you collect a gloriously fluffy, happy pet. Puppies and kittens get a gentler intro session rather than the full works.
What is hand stripping, and does my dog need it? +
Hand stripping is the technique used on wire-coated breeds — schnauzers, terriers, dachshunds, cockers. Instead of clipping the coat (which softens it and dulls the colour), we pluck the dead outer hairs by hand. It keeps the texture, the colour, and the weatherproofness the breed was bred for. It takes longer than a clip — but for the right breed it’s the right thing.
How long does a groom take? +
A full dog groom is usually 1.5–2.5 hours, depending on coat condition and breed. Hand-stripping appointments run a bit longer (2–3 hours). Cat and rabbit appointments are usually shorter but we never rush them. We’ll give you a likely pickup time when you book — and if it changes, we’ll message you.
Coverage
